BIOGRAPHY
Name: Kunchako Boban
Sex: Male
Date of Birth: 02 Nov 1979
Place of Birth: Alappuzha, Kerala
Kunchacko Boban (also known as Chackochan) is a Malayalam film actor. He is the grandson of famous film producer Kunchacko of erstwhile Udaya Studios, Alappuzha. He started his career through a superhit Malayalam film Aniyathipravu, directed by Fazil, in 1997. His role in the film Harikrishnans (also by Fazil), which starred both Mammootty and Mohanlal, made him one of the top actors of Malayalam industry.
He became an instant teenage heartthrob after his first film, the Fazil directed Aniyathi Pravu (1997), was released. He was a favourite among Kerala's college-campus scene after starring in numerous love stories, but once he finished college, he decided to focus on character roles with more scope. He hails from the Maliampurakal family, who are credited with owning the first film studio in Kerala - Udaya. His favourite dish is Karimeen (fried fish).
Kamal's Niram (co-starring Shalini) and Swapnakoodu, both which had Kunchacko in prominent roles, was a rage among teenagers and college students.
When Malluwood actors and actresses are making a beeline to Kollywood, Kunchako Boban is one exception to the rule.
The actor recently made a startling revelation. 'I did receive plenty of offers from Tamil. People like Manirathnam and Agathiyan offered me films. But I had refused them. Unlike other heroes, my first priority is my health and personal life.'
'I don't believe in sacrificing my health or my personal life for the sake of money or popularity. I want to spend more time with my family. I want to enjoy life. Moreover my desire is to concentrate in Malayalam movies now'.
Kunchacko Boban is the grandson of famous film producer Kunchacko. Boban is married to Priya Ann Samuel.
Career
He became an instant teenage heartthrob following his first film, the Fazil-directed Aniyathi Pravu (1997). Kunchacko Boban and Shalini gained a reputation as a star pair; they went on to work together in four films. He stood out among the heroes of the late 1990s, when the middle-aged super stars concentrated on action films.
Following the success of Aniyathi Pravu, Kunchacko Boban was cast in movies like Nakshathra Tharattu and Mayilppeelikkavu. In Nakshathra Tharattu, he was again cast opposite Shalini. Both films were fairly successful. Then he played a cameo in Fazil's Harikrishnans, which marked the reunion of Mohanlaland Mammootty after 9 years.
Then came a streak of flops like Chandamama, Ingane Oru Nila Pakshi, Prem Poojari, Sahayathrikakku Snehapoorvam, etc. He had a single success in 1998, Kamal's Niram, which featured him opposite Shalini for the final time. Dosth did fairly well, but in an age when Dileep had the Midas touch, Kunchako's performance was half-charged. Then he played a good comedy role in Sathyan Anthikkadu's Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka.
The movie Ee Sneha Theerathu fetched him a Special Jury Award at the 2004 Kerala State Film Awards.
After Niram, Dosth and Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka, his next hits were Kasthoorimann, and Swapnakkoodu. In 2005 he got married and started concentrating on real estate business and was quite successful. In 2006 and 2007, he did not act much.
He returned to films in 2008 with Shafi's LollyPop, which also starred Jayasurya and Bhavana. In 2009 he again paired up with Jayasurya in Gulumal: The Escape.
After Gulumal: The Escape, he acted in Mummy & Me and in Sakudumbam Shyamala. Then he was cast in Lal Jose's Elsamma Enna Aankutty, in which he had an image makeover with the character Palunni. After Elsamma he appeared in Shaji Azeez's Oridathoru Postman and Saji Surendran's Four Friends. His first release in 2011, Traffic is a superhit. His latest release Makeup Man' is also doing extremely well at the box office.
Personal life
He is the grandson of film producer Kunchacko of the erstwhile Udaya Studios, the first film studio in Kerala. He is the grandnephew of Maliampurackal Chacko Punnoose Appachan.
Kunchako Boban married Priya Ann Samuel on 2 April 2005.
